Amazon Moves 130 Jobs To Phoenix After Closing A Seattle Unit
Amazon is getting rid of a Seattle team that supported the company’s contract delivery drivers and moving those jobs to Phoenix.
The unit in Washington state that Amazon has decided to close employed about 130 people. According to The Seattle Times, Amazon’s unit in Arizona is home to other centralized operations teams and has more space to grow. Christine Mackay is with the City of Phoenix. She said the cost of living is much lower in Phoenix when compared to Seattle.
"So the wages kind of adjust based on that cost of living, but they also find that for businesses it’s less costly for them to do business here in Arizona, of course not only on the workforce side, but on their cost of operating the actual brick and mortar of their building," Mackay said.
Mackay said Phoenix has had a very successful relationship with the company and she’s excited to see them grow in Arizona.
